A video making the rounds online has everyone both laughing and slightly panicked. A man shared footage of himself waking up with a strange white, bumpy tongue and captioned it: “These are the consequences of sleeping with… 😅”
Viewers were quick to flood the comments with their own wild theories. Some joked that he must have “slept with too much garlic bread,” while others teased that the mystery was “best left unsolved.”
But doctors who weighed in had a more serious take. A white, coated, or bumpy tongue can actually be caused by:
- Dehydration or dry mouth (yes, even sleeping with your mouth open can do it!)
- Poor oral hygiene leading to bacterial buildup
- Thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth)
- Irritation from smoking, alcohol, or spicy foods
- In rare cases, underlying health conditions
While most cases aren’t dangerous and clear up with good hydration and oral care, experts advise seeing a doctor if the symptoms last more than a week.
For now, though, the internet isn’t done laughing. One top comment summed it up perfectly:
👉 “Not me checking my tongue in the mirror at 3 AM after watching this!” 😂
